Arashiyama Kyoto

I love Kyoto! To be honest, I didn’t do much research on Kyoto when I planned my trip to Japan. When I finally got to Kyoto, I quickly fell in love.

Kyoto is a mix of old and new, with historical buildings throughout the city mixed in with a modern city. I loved it, I felt like I was walking into old Japan living in the present.

One of my favorite places turned out to be the Arashiyama River. On a sunnier day, the whole river and mountains would light up so brightly, that I had to literally avert my gaze from the river. But, on a rainier day, there is a different view.

You start to hear the roar of the river, the sound of raindrops hitting the water, the calls of the birds in the mountains, and the eerie, ominous fog that settles above the water.

We weren’t deterred though and walked along the river on the rainy day. We spent the time in the Arashiyama Bamboo forest, which without the sun, was kind of scary because as it was a rainy day, there weren’t many people in the trail and it was really dark!

I took this shot outside the river on our stroll!
