If you look closely, it depicts Maria Severa, the first fado singer in Portugal, who was also a prostitute with many famous lovers. LIC, NY // Happy Pride! We support equal rights & happiness for all! Recently, in graduate school, our professor in Nursing Population Health, talked about the needs in the LGBTQIA+ community. I took away from it the need to remain educated, empathetic, insightful, and thoughtful. There are realities, including continued high rates of suicide, depression, homelessness, and substance abuse for LGBTQIA+ youth. While TV/media can perpetuate a stereotype of acceptance, many people still do not experience this. Lisbon, Portugal // Stress management is now my number one goal in life. It’s hard when I feel like I’m in my prime years and I want to do everything. Embedded in my upbringing is also a want to accomplish everything with success or achievement. It’s okay to hit pause and reevaluate what your mind and body can actually manage. At one point I was balancing work, graduate school, baby planning, buying a house, a weekend side job, dogsitting, traveling, working through personal drama/trauma, & now vitiligo - all the while doing it all with energy and passion - totally ignoring signs that I may be headed toward a burnout of sorts. I put some of my life plans on hold and taking on lighter projects now, back to focusing on me, and it’s felt a lot better.
